tonight annie and i went to see van halen at some big arena. we were in row F — which, contrary to what it looks like in this crappy camera phone picture, was pretty fucking close to the stage. especially for an arena show. my suggestion to the world: always get press tickets. wow.
david lee roth was in fine form. he pranced around, at turns looking like a gay pirate, a gay cruise ship director, and… i don’t even know. himself. haha. he had a lot of different outfits. the other guys? all wore jeans and t-shirts.
wolfgang van halen is basically the most adorable kid in the world.
they closed the show with “jump” (of course), and it was terrible — easily the worst song of the night. i was super surprised, because the rest of the show was pretty fucking good, and entertaining as hell.
but the most awesome thing about the show wasn’t the dudes smoking weed, the frat boys attempting to mosh, the mom (in mom jeans!) who both raised the roof and booty-danced, or the giant inflatable microphone, but, rather, how much fun the dudes were having. like life is a party.
(or a dance floor, haha.)
my best observation of the night is this: van halen needs a keytar. stat.
