i met jozelle a couple of years ago when she was hired to work as an assistant at tor. one of the first things i tried to get her to watch on the television when she finally started watching television is firefly. but she refused, over and over again.

yesterday ian requested that firefly be turned on so he could watch it. five minutes in and jozelle was riveted to the fucking television, eyes wide.

today we took a break from watching firefly to stop at the “what’s on watson” festival — which i thought would be more like a street fair and instead fit in the parking lot of a church. it was just a couple of booths. cute, though.

scott was spinning on a drop spindle. he let me watch for a while, and talked to me about spinning, and the way he explained it made a lot of sense. i have come to the conclusion that my problem is not with the spinning itself — however difficult it is to get a spin going — but with drafting. the drafting is completely freaking impossible.

i have also come to the conclusion that i need a lot more practice. so i spun an ounce of yarn today. well, a bit under an ounce. then i plied the two pieces of yarn together. wow, that is hard. but now i have some nice sport weight yarn. it’s not enough to do anything with except maybe make a swatch, but i might make a swatch just to have.

it is nice chilly fall weather. today i wore flip flops and for the first time since about last march, my toes were cold. it’s nice.
